coca cola coupons and huge Vons vent!

June 5th, 2006 at 12:01 am

Boy oh boy was the Vons here unhappy about my using my two coupons for 10 free 2 liter bottles of soda. I got into an agrument withthe mangaer - can you believe it? I ended up so frustrated that I walked out, leaving all ten bottles at the register, in the cart. And that, my friends, is not something I normally do!

I walked to another store in the plaza where they happily took my coupons.

I need to craft a letter to Vons' headquarters, outlining the entire experience, from the checker who didn't greet me or even smile and referred to me as though I weren't there when talking with the manager, to the manager who claimed he couldn't do anything because it was "policy" but lo and behold that policy kept changing during the course of the interchange. Top it off with their disdain that I wouldn't swipe my d@$& club card and I'm done with them altogether.

Almost every coupon has the words "One per purchase" printed on it - the majority do, at the very least. Now, does this mean you can only use one coupon for your entire purchase? I don't think so! This is what the manager and checker tried to tell me. If I have two coupons and buy what's required for each coupon, I can use each coupon. If it said something like one per customer or household, well, that would be different. But it doesn't.

I'm still angry at how I was treated. I am the freaking customer! It was a bad experience all around.

You are correct in your interpretation of the coupon. I'm glad you found a store that would accept them. Sorry you had to go through that. I had a similar experience at a major department store recently. My letter to headquarters got me what I wanted! Smile Good luck with your letter!

I remember my first 'big' coupon experience was at Vons. They doubled the coupons back then...it was in the 80's.

Once every 6 months, my coupon/rebate club would get all our great coupons together and see how well we could do...(there were 4 of us)

    We picked a non-busy day/time...I think we went on a Tuesday morning...at 8am.

It took me an hour and a half to get through all my coupons...and I had a cart full of meats, dairy, cereal, toiletries, etc...

I had given the 2 customers behind me an opportunity to go ahead of me...but they were interested in seeing what the total was...

I was sooooo excited, I KNEW I had worked for 6 months on this trip...

about mid-way through the check-out...I was smiling, the customers were watching...and the cashier looked at me with disgust and said "They should make it illegal for you to do this"....talk about instant deflating...

I ended up having $197 in groceries...and with a $6 rebate check at the end, I got $3 cash back from the cashier!!!!!

I was so proud, but yet so offended at the same time. @6 years later, I still have that Vons experience fresh in my mind...

Go get em! They are CLEARLY in the wrong.

I had a small problem using my coca-cola coupons at King Soopers today too. The cashier only gave me back the money for 1 bottle of coke. I told him it was for all 5 bottles. He said "where did you get this coupon, I've never seen one before?" I told him he would probably be seeing more of them. He says, "I hope not". Kind of snotty, like we should be ashamed for taking advantage of them that way. Hey, if the manufacture is happy with the deal, it's no skin off of his nose, the store gets their money.

I so wish I had the time/patience to clip coupons to the point that the store owes me money at the end of the checkout, that letter was awesome! What gets me is the attitude of the checker. Why should they be anything but nice regardless of how good a shopper you are. Why take it personallly? The store gets reimbursed for the item so why act like its some sort of illegal activity when a person takes the time to save some money on groceries to feed their families? I say more power to them! I cant wait till Sundays paper comes now
