Fabric, not much else

August 29th, 2005 at 03:17 pm

My IL's went car shopping last night, and we went along to help out. They took us out to dinner afterwards for Greek food, which was nice.

I think some of the fabric I bought to make a top for DD shrank more than usual when I pre-washed it, as no matter how I lay out the pattern pieces there just isn't enough there. Frustrating.

8/1/05 - 8/28/05:
Groceries: $221.99
Dining: $117.70
Starbucks: $30.65
Total: $370.34 ($13.23/day)

Oh that sucks. Can you take it back for excessive shrinkage? (I know nothing about this). Or can you buy more fabric that will match (I know dye lots are a big deal for yarn)? Or, failing that, will it work for another pattern? Maybe used with a coordinating pattern?

My mom and aunt used to make me and my cousin matching clothes. My favorite were these dresses that were different colors of pastel gingham (this was the 70s) and then there were these dresses that were brown on white and white on brown calico (but big flowers). I wore my dress until I couldn't fit in it anymore and then wore out her dress (she was a year older and always much taller, she's 6'1" now and I'm 5'8").

I hope you figure out how to make it work!

It's a new pattern that I want to try out, so I think what I'll end up doing is buying a bit more of the fabric, assuming they still have some. The store manager happens to be a former student of mine Wink so I may be able to work something out.
