Eating meat

June 5th, 2005 at 03:38 pm

I'm feeling better, although last night DH and I had beef ribs at a party. Now, we strive to be vegetarian and never have meat for dinner. I never buy it for us. But, if we're at a dinner party and that is what is served, we're not going to leave it untouched. It's a waste of food and seems disrespectful to the hosts. So, we had these ribs, and today we both feel kind of lousy. Seems our bodies just don't want to handle beef anymore. I'm not unhappy about that. It's not like we were going to start buying meat again anyway, but it's nice in an odd way to see how our bodies have moved away from being meat-eating entities.

Dh and I were talking about when to next reevaluate our budget. We wrote the current one last December, so I think we'll plan on looking at again this winter. Make it a yearly sort of thing. Things are going to change if we do indeed send DD to the private schol we looked at. There is a spot for her. We'll make it work.

DH and I have a very similar attitude toward meat. VERY rarely do I buy it to cook at the house and when I do, I make it a treat by getting organic when possible. The cost of organic prevents us from purchasing. However, today I'm considering tacos for lunch.

And we have also found that when we indulge, the next day we are sluggish and wonder what we did to ourselves.

I recently heard the term "flexitarian" - people who are primarily vegetarian, but will occasionally do the meat thing once in a while.

At a picnic I was at today, someone sitting near me said she thought there was an enzyme or something related to digesting meat that our bodies stop producing, or don't produce as much of, as we staop eating meat. I'm going to look into that, sheerly out of curiosity.

if you find anything about that enzyme, please post! I'd be interested too. I just had my "vegetarian anniversary", four years without meat!

I've been taking enzymes from two fantastic companies. The first is Therazyme http://www.loomisenzymes.com/ based in Madison, WI. (The odd thing about this oneis that someone told me about them before we moved to the SW. I found them here in the middle of nowhere - Capitan, NM - where the claim to fame is home of Smokey the bear.) The second is Infinity2 http://www.infinity2.com/index.asp

The drawback is that 1) they are pricey and 2) you have to go through a practicioner, usually a chiropractor or a naturopath to get access to them. They are authorized to either sell them to you (Loomis) or get you signed up to purchase via the Internet (infinity)

They have mada a world of differnece for me. I used to get stomach aches everytime I ate just about anything. Turns out I wasnt processing carbs and my pancrease was being overworked as a a result and all the sugars were converting directly to fat for the body to deal with later. I took them diligently while we were on vacation and lost weight because I could actually process what I was eating.

Dont know about specific ones for meat. Both companies have different formulations that break down different things.
